Romantic Times Book Lovers Convention in Columbus Ohio

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

OMG...that's pretty much all I can say to describe the awesomeness of the National Romantic Times Convention this year. I went downtown today, just to register for the events that I'm going to attend over the next few days, and was blown away by the shear volume of people attending this event. I can already tell it's gonna be EPIC!

Anyway, I wanted to tell you guys that I got my official who's going to be when and where list, and guess what, it's like a stalker's dream tool. Which is awesome news for you, my lovely reader, because I am going to hopefully score some signatures from some bad ass writers for book giveaways! Cool, right? So stay tuned to my blog, GotYa, and Fiction Flurry for details about when and how I'm going to do the book giveaways. I'll be posting about my experience at this event, as well as some pics...and possibly even a vlog if I can figure it out. So here's a sneak peek of the authors on my to-be-stalked list:

Melissa Marr

Charlaine Harris
Rachel Vincent

Richelle Mead

Kelley Armstrong

Holly Black
Carrie Ryan

I could seriously go on longer, but I'm running out of steam posting pictures! LOL But you get the idea...like I said, it's going to be EPIC!!

Flash Back Fridays: Movies

Friday, April 23, 2010

The GotYA crew dedicated this weeks Flashback Friday to movies that inspire the writer you are today. I am soooooo guilty of being a movies fanatic, and 80's movies are my guilty little pleasure. There are so many movies from the totally awesome era that still inspire me today. Even as a little kid I enjoyed some movies geared toward adult, like these:

Where a woman, Shelly Long, is raised from the dead several years after her death to find her family has completely changed in her absence. Great fun, and even as a seven year old, I got the general concept of the story. I haven't seen this one for several years, but it's still fresh in my memory.

Okay, so who hasn't dreamed about getting back at a mean boss or some other meanie? Not me...*whistles innocently* This movie is great for so many reasons, besides being funny, there are a few scenes where the girls from the office totally let this imaginations go crazy of how they'd like to get even with their boss, and it's still great inspiration for a revenge story.

Big Business is the ultimate movie about twins switched at birth, and how they are later mistaken for each other. I must've seen this one like 50 gazillion times!

Now, let's not forget the teen movies I was obsessed with when I was young, practically wearing out the VHS tapes watching them so many times.

*Sigh* I could seriously post awesome movies all day long!

What movies inspire you??????? I'm always up for suggesties of ones to watch.

Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler

Saturday, April 17, 2010

Twenty Boy SummerAmazon Plot Review: "“What is the statute of limitations on feeling guilty for cheating on a ghost?” Anna writes in her journal, or rather, writes to Matt, her first true love and her best friend Frankie’s brother. More than a year has passed since Matt’s sudden death, and all that time Anna has kept her brief relationship with Matt a secret from Frankie. Matt had planned to tell his sister but died before he had the opportunity. Now, while on a beach vacation with Frankie’s family, Anna finds herself falling for cute, sensitive Sam against her will—if she can love someone else, does that mean she no longer loves Matt? Anna approaches this issue and other big questions with the insight and maturity that come when a young person loses someone he or she cares deeply about. Anna’s authentic voice and some lyrical writing will satisfy fans of Sarah Dessen, while the mix of romance, drama, and tragedy will be a draw for teen readers of Nicholas Sparks and Jodi Picoult." Grades 9-11. --Heather Booth --

My Thoughts:
When I picked up the book to skim, I didn't even realize that I'd read the first 30 pages, until someone interrupted me. So yes, this book has a GREAT opening. This book is a heavy romance contemp, so if your like me, and go gah gah over good love stories, you'll like it. However, this novel is a sad romance, great, but sad.
